ECTS Credits for German Master's Programs

German universities require a minimum number of ECTS credits from your Bachelor's degree to be eligible for Master's admission. The standard requirement is 180 ECTS (equivalent to a 3-year European Bachelor's), though many competitive programs prefer 210 or 240 ECTS.

If your Bachelor's degree is from outside Europe, your credits need to be converted to ECTS equivalents. The conversion depends on your country's credit system — for example, 1 US credit hour is approximately equal to 2 ECTS, while 1 UK CATS credit equals 0.5 ECTS.

A typical 3-year Indian Bachelor's (CBCS system with ~120 credits) converts to approximately 240 ECTS. A 4-year US Bachelor's with 120 credit hours also converts to about 240 ECTS. If you fall short of the required ECTS, some universities offer bridge programs or allow you to make up the difference during your Master's studies.
